Emily's Background

Emily Maurice, a South Dakota native, graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 2008. She obtained her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies in 2010 and began working as a paralegal focusing on employment law matters with Nichols Kaster, PLLP, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In 2011, Emily returned to Sioux Falls and began working as a paralegal at Lynn, Jackson, Shultz & Lebrun. Following three years of learning all aspects of litigation, Emily decided to attend law school at the University of South Dakota, graduating with honors in 2017. While at the University of South Dakota School of Law, she served as co-president of the Trial Team, President of her class, and the Note & Comment Editor of the South Dakota Law Review, where she was published in Volume 61.

A drive to deliver quality service to clients led Emily to join in the founding of Halbach|Szwarc Law Firm in 2023, a full-service law firm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This role allows her to continue providing competent and efficient service with a team of experienced and capable attorneys.

Emily believes in contributing to building the future of the legal profession to serve clients, whether through teaching an intern or engaging youth in the discussion of possible legal careers. She currently serves on the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association as the American Association for Justice Young Board Member, the Strategic Planning Committee for the State Bar of South Dakota, and has been Vice-President and President of the Second Circuit Women in Law.
